Artspace Aotearoa, formerly styled as ARTSPACE NZ, is a non-commercial contemporary art organisation on Karangahape Road in Newton, Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland, Aotearoa, New Zealand. It is recognised as one of the original contemporary art spaces in New Zealand, dedicated to promoting contemporary art in New Zealand through a programme which supports and advocates for experiential and under-represented art by local and international artists. As a non-profit organisation it is substantially funded through Creative New Zealand, Toi Tōtara Haemata Programme, with significant support also from Foundation North, Auckland City Council, Chartwell Trust, and private benefactors. The organisation is overseen by a charitable trust governed by a Board of Trustees. The Director is selected by the Trustees to curate its programme for a 4-5 year tenure. This Directorship is open to national and international Curators. The changeover period was implemented to ensure that a diverse range of artistic practices continues to be represented. Artspace Aotearoa offers a free exhibition schedule and events programme which delivers and hosts artist and curator lead talks and workshops, educational programmes, film screenings, residencies, and the publication of art texts. A public reading library of publications and periodicals serves as a research resource.
