Really disappointing experience with Avis. It started badly when I arrived at the specified time to be told the car was not ready. Just what you need after 30 hours travelling... It turns out cars were ready just not the one they wanted to go back to New Plymouth. It’s not a good customer experience to be charged extra for a one way journey whilst being inconvenienced for the privilege. Then the car itself. Lots of scratches and small dents. None noted despite being larger than 50mm that Avis paperwork said would be ignored. Inside the car was pretty dirty with incredible amounts of long blonde hair and greasy marks. The staff were rude and unhelpful. In the end I had to wait til nearly 7am after booking the car for 5.30am. To top it off the invoice included extra charges that were not quoted when we booked. Complained but was fobbed off. Use another firm, there’s plenty of other to choose from.
I had hire car for a week which was a tidy enough corolla. The staff at both pick up and drop off were friendly. However, after I had left the place and give in to the airport I read the electronic bill which was sent at the time of drop off and found that I had been charged forty some dollars for fuel. I had filled the car just prior to drop off. I returned to the counter and the staff member was friendly and after 10 minutes said it had been a mistake and it would be fixed. I asked for another electronic receipt and left. I never received the receipt so I'm going to have to chase it up again to see if they removed the charge. So in short, good car, nice staff, just check your bill incase my experience want just a one off.
Easy to find at Auckland domestic airport with lots of staff to quickly assist and the formalities took no more than 5 minutes before I was out the door and in my rental. No dramas whatsoever. Highly recommend.
We received a great vehicle! The Holden Trax was in great condition which included a sun roof, heated front seats and bluetooth connectivity. The second vehicle we received (toured North and South Island and cannot take a vehicle on the ferry) was not as nice. It was a Nissan and may have been a little older. No heated seats or sunroof. Did have a CD player! However the condition of the vehicle itself was great. No concerns with either vehicle. They made the transfer from island to island very easy. Parked and dropped the key off at the Wellington Interislander Ferry Terminal and then picked up the other vehicle in Picton. I was worried about issues with payments but so far everything is what it was supposed to be. I received a receipt for payment upon returning the second vehicle. The staff at the Christchurch Airport was great. I highly reccomend taking pictures and doing a walk around the vehicle with an AVIS employee before leaving the parking lot
Very disappointed that Avis could not resolve an issue I had with my billing. Go elsewhere if you can.
