Above average experience. Appreciated for a table cause we had no booking and the host managed find us space. It was a Saturday night and obviously the staff there were used up with energy etc. Only a Japanese lady n a French guy was friendly and inviting. Food was nice except the Karaake chicken, which was quite hard. Cocktails were amazing! Desserts are a must try. Will return for sure for another occasion.

A fantastic place for modern Japanese food with contemporary decor, great cocktails, and excellent food. The sashimi was fresh, and the fried soft shelled crab was nice and crunchy. The flamed fish roe is a first for me, I’ve had torched scallop and salmon etc but never fish roe.. to be honest I think it’s gimmicky as the flavour is more pronounced as on scallops, just it’s taste, and hearing all the roe crackling under the torch was strangely satisfying.
A modern contemporary Japanese restaurant located at Grey Lynn/Ponsonby. If you never been to the restaurant, it is a bit hard to find, the only clue to the restaurant from the footpath is the "Asahi" sign above your head. However, staff are friendly and courteous. They gave you choices of tap water or sparkling water when seated. They have kids menu with good selection of meals. Good selection of dishes from the menu and you can order a few and share among the diners. After we ordered the dishes, they came out very quickly. All dishes are tasty and yummy. We will come again.
Food came out incredibly slow. Good quality and was delicious but the poor/dim lighting made it hard to read menus and was a massive strain on the eyes
An exotic mainly Japanese menu. Uniformly delicious and presented with real flare. Dipping into their adventurous cocktail menu also recommended. No shortage of more conventional Asian fusion and regular beverages if that's what you want.
Thank you for the good food, service and genuine hospitality. I ordered too much food and when I asked to take the food home - it wasn’t a problem. Ponsonby was busy and it had a great vibe and feeling. Azabu really makes you feel like Auckland is a true international city. If you’re missing the big lights and action of an international city and the buzz you get walking the streets of Downtown Manhattan or Sunset Boulevard... a dining experience at Azabu will fill that void. Thank you again!!!
Very customer focused, great service, delicious food. Tonight there was a confusion in regards to the pick up of an order as I accidentally took the wrong order home. Azabu staff called us to admit that there had been a misunderstanding and I was able to then pick our order up, whilst keeping the wrong order I picked up earlier. Staff were super friendly and the sushi is amazing. We’ll have some high quality lunch for tomorrow. Thanks team!
So many people had told me Azabu is great and it’s been on my list for a while... but I don’t know. It was pretty good but not what I expected. The pork crackling was extremely salty, karaage chicken lacked flavour and was a tad dry. But the sashimi was really good, the tempura was alright and the yuzu margarita was awesome.
