Our missions are led by more than 2,000 professionally-trained volunteers, operating out of 60+ strategically-positioned units around New Zealand's coast and on major lakes and waterways. Our volunteers are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Coastguard New Zealand is a registered charity (Royal New Zealand Coastguard Incorporated, CC36138). We rely on public donations and sponsorship to help provide training and equipment for our volunteers, as government support provides less than 15% of our overall funding. Coastguard also provides boating education, promotes water safety, has a marine VHF communications network and runs a NowCasting Service, providing up to date tide and wind information.
