My dual fuel car needed a WOF, gas cert and a tune up because it was running poorly. The owner, Ross Golding told me the LPG system under the bonnet would need a full recondition, a quote was given. Because of the high cost, I decided to pass on the recon for now. I wouldn't need a gas cert anymore and keep the car running on petrol only. Ross told me the tank and filler connection would need to be removed by a qualified alternative fuel technician to comply with WOF regulations if the car was to be used without a gas cert. I told him a VTNZ testing station showed me the NZTA rule book stating only the filler connection needed to be removed so the car could get a WOF. Ross argued the point and told me to go away and do my homework. Below is the information from the NZTA website, the same rule book all the garages/ testing stations keep on their premises . 3.2 Establishing whether the vehicle requires alternative fuel system inspection and certification (Rule 7.2(b)(v)) An alternative fuel inspection certificate is required for any vehicle fitted with an alternative fuel system that is in working order before it can be issued with a WoF or CoF. Note: An alternative fuel system with all the necessary components connected is deemed to be in working order, whether or not it is charged. A system that has had the filler connection removed is deemed to be not in working order. The information above clearly states only the filler connection needs to be removed making the vehicle legal for a WOF. The tank does not need to be removed if the vehicle does not have a LPG certificate. I asked the testing station if I could remove the connector myself, which they confirmed I could. I took the car to the testing station and got my WOF no problem. Beware everyone!

These guys work on my 66 Cortina and are really professional after a couple of other garages just guessed at what to do. I live 50km from these guys but always bring my car in for work there.
