This place was so incredibly beautiful!!! We went for a dip even though it was ice cold water. Nice and refreshing after our long slog uphill to get there. We will be back for more!

A lovely, short-but-moderate hike to a secret little swimming hole under the lower part of the Karamatura Falls. The falls you can see from halfway through the hike are not what you see at the swimming hole, but it's still worth the hike. If your kids have good balance, take them along, but otherwise, there are a couple of streams to clamber over, and there's some steep sets of stairs a few times on the way in. The water was c-c-c-COLD, even on a late summer day, but probably very refreshing as a result, if you work up a sweat.

Beautiful, well maintained track with lots of different things to see. Stunning swimming hole at the waterfall. It's a popular spot but we've had it to ourselves twice now by going on a weekday in the afternoon.

Excellent walk! 4 hours as per the website from the Karamatura Falls car park to the summit and back is a good workout. Well laid out paths and lots of uphill climbing steps. Not suitable for kids under 10 yrs unless your's are exceptionally adventurous and keen.

If you like stairs and nature then the walk from Karamatura to Mt Donald Mclean is a great walk and a half. The recent boardwalk and track upgrades are also great :)

Nice scenery, be prepared for a walk to get to the falls. Need to have a reasonable level of fitness to get there and then access the pool.

Well maintained path to a beautiful spot. Quite a bit of up but well worth it.

Start at Huia Road (opposite Huia Hall), newly built toilet by the entrance. Fun walk but lots and lots of uphill steps. By the waterfall, there isn't a lot of space for a picnic or sitting around.
