We bought an ex rental camper on JR, unfortunately blew a head gasket on the way out of Napier I the middle of our summer holidays. Oliver and Scottie were fantastic. They got us back on the road with a temp camper van no charge and they are willing to fix the we one we bought when it returns from Napier. This is outstanding customer service we can highly recommend Lucky Rentals. Thanks guys awesome job! Marty & Mache :)

Seats were full of stains which felt very unhygienic. Not well maintained camper van. There were stains at many parts of the roof. My first ever camper van trip was planned to build lots of memories, but unfortunately it's all spoiled and total disappointment for my kids. Definitely not recommended unless otherwise you are a total budget conscious person.

Scotty on the desk was great to deal with. The fact that Lucky Rentals would allow an Under 21 as a named driver was paramount in my choice of rental company. I'd use again and recommend.

Terrible experience. We booked a lucky camper for our Honeymoon, which was a massive mistake. The lady who showed us around it gave us no information, and when we asked her questions about it she said ‘dunno, haven’t used this one in a while’. The inside of our sliding door fell off half way through, the boot wouldn’t open (for some unknown reason) on day two of our 5 day trip. The toilet stunk the who van out even once emptied and the cutlery provided had mould growing on it. It was a shabby car, the table inside wouldn’t stay up and was all bent and held together with duct tape. You couldn’t eat a meal on it. The stovetop wouldn’t light. When we emptied the waste the first time it was not emptied properly from the previous use. No one told us where the information card was which we found on the last day of the trip which had instructions for the heater which we hadn’t been told how to use and had spent the entire trip freezing cold. Ruined what should have been a good time. Will never book them ever again. They were kind enough to offer us one days worth of hire refund, but to be honest that doesn’t compensate at all for the terrible time we had.

The worst experience we've had in renting vans. Old fashioned van and not in proper conditionsa at all. NEVER RENT LUCKY.

Buy cheap, buy twice. We went on a three week trip through New Zealand and wanted to go for a camper since it would give us more flexibility in our trip planning and good value for not needing a hotel room everyday. We booked a Lucky because of the great price for, at first glace, the same car model and similar equipment. At the pick up station first everything seemed fine, the staff was nice, it wasn't crowded or anything. It wasn't till after we finished the paperwork when all went south. At that point we were told that our car even though booked for 10am wouldn't be ready for pick-up until 4 or 5 in the afternoon. We had a tight schedule and had to leave by noon to make it to our other pre-booked activities. They offered to credit is the first day of rental (the day that we wouldn't get a car from them until 5 anyway, really generous). In the end, after discussions back and forth, we got an "upgrade" to another, smaller car (actually a van, not a camper) for the same price we already paid. Since it was incredible uncomfortable to sleep in there (two guys) we used the van as car and slept in hotels for the three weeks. So in the end, this maybe was the most expensive car rental if ever made. In conclusion: Having a 8 months in advance booking and not being able to have over the car on time is just unprofessional beyond imagination. Handling this error the way they did is just pure impudence. Nevertheless two stars since the car and equipment, though old and worn off, still worked without any greater malfunctions.

Thank you Lucky for the amazing experience. Rented a Lucky Rodeo (Toyota Estima). Runs amazingly well, super smooth drive and comfortable (in 4 and a half days made almost 1400km), nice air con, nice sound system (bring an AUX cable and you a sorted) Super friendly staff, easy to pick up and drop off. Really big thanks!!! I don't get people complaining about old cars with small breakdowns. They are old and well used. Don't come with huge expectations.. if you want new... Go and pay big notes with bigger rentals. Highly recommended for short stays (4-5 days) Tips: if you intend to pay cash, bring exact amount, the don't have change for you. Regards from a very satisfied customer.
