The New Zealand Writers Guild (NZWG) is a professional organisation for script writers in the fields of film, television, theatre, new media and radio. With over 400 members, the NZWG is the representative body for writers in the New Zealand entertainment industry and is affiliated with international Writers Guilds. The aim of the NZWG is to protect the rights of the writers and offers them advice and support during contract negotiation. Furthermore, the Guild works to lobby government and funding bodies. Maintaining and improving the minimum condition of work and rates of compensation for writers is one of the main objectives of the NZWG. Located in Auckland, New Zealand, the Guild functions and works in way that adheres to the spirit and principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
