I compared about 8 quotes with other companies for our move from North to South island. We had other quotes come in cheaper but I chose to use NZ Van Lines. What a mistake. Emma, their rep assured me that our furniture would be bubble wrapped and blanket wrapped if it could not be boxed. IT WASN'T. Upon delayed delivery the friendly drivers were apologetic about the damages to whiteware and furniture that 'weren't wrapped in the previous truck'. We had over 2000 worth of damages and when contacting Emma she explained that my insurance wasn't originally submitted as there were missing forms??? You would think if we had ticked the box to request insurance that a sales rep would follow this up and confirm our insurance at the time of booking. Not only were many items damaged, we were also missing goods that took 3 weeks to be returned to us with NO communication whatsoever. Do yourself a favour and use another company!

Not recommended. Damaged our furniture and declined to make it good. In more detail, we used Van Lines to move houses. We heard allot about their fantastic service and packaging, yet when we unpacked we had one TV smashed, one set of draws damaged and an expensive marble table deeply scratched. What was their response? Claim it on your insurance and our contract disclaims all liability. What was their response when I escalated to the manager, “..they are a proud NZ business … to service our customers with absolute care”, but no we wont make things right and we won’t pay for the damage. In my view, that’s a cop out. Yes we could claim on our insurance (Not their original proposed insurance which was very expensive (1750) and with many caveats and exclusions (No IT, max 1k per item unless named, 5k max per item if named, depreciated value clauses etc) and material excess (250 per item), and not actually needed as our standard home insurance applied), but with the excess and premium hike, that doesn’t make sense. My advice would be cross their terms and require them to take 1k of liability per item for any damage, thus covering your costs if they do damage your goods. If they say no, then they are not prepared to back their sales pitches.

Quite traumatized by our recent experience moving from the North to the South Island using NZ Van Lines. Do not recommend using the Auckland branch sales people and their manager although the Auckland packing team that showed up at our house were great. Shame to experience such mixed results depending on who we dealt with at NZ Van Lines especially when they came recommended to us. Moving houses let alone cities is stressful enough as it is and I regret choosing to use their service. Would not recommend NZ Van Lines to family and friends.

As a home renovater I have had multiple moves in the last few years and to say I have had problems with removalist companies is an understatement. But NZ Van Lines in my new go too. They took very good care of my items and the removilst's were super polite.
