Cockle picking!!! I've never done this until today, but my fiance's family has a tradition of it. Wait until the tide is the furthest out then walk way out into the soft muddy sand and clear water and start digging! We went too late in the season and they were all tiny so not worth keeping. They have a few feet/bucket washing water faucets back on shore. Bathroom building too but didn't notice showers I there.

Aucklanders are very lucky to have this on their doorstep! Very well kept and supplied toilet facilities, with outdoor showers. Highly recommend.

Nice picnic area with access to the beach. Toilets and BBQ facilities are available. Good for a day's outing with family. Children feel free here as there are large safe open spaces for running and playing around. Large trees provide a good picnic area with shade on a warm sunny day. Easily accessible by road. Ample parking available too. Well recommended.
