Walking up a volcano is a great day out! 2k up then you arrive at a spacious area with seats, a lookout platform, a trig station and an empty building. It is well worth the effort! The lava caves are slightly off to the side on the way up but long and dark and a cool place to check out. Make sure you take enough food and water as there is none on the island. It is also pest free so the bird life is amazing.

Easy walk for anyone with two leg. Yep, no doggies allowed here. There is one cave which is a fantastic experience for first timers!! The walk was good, the energy amazing, but it is what it is... a dormant volcano therefore there's very little flora and fauna, minimal animal life BUT, a great experience all the same.

Offered incredible panoramic views of Auckland. Make sure to wear sturdy shoes to help you hike up the summit.

Beautiful view, beautiful walk; great time... the walk is about 45mins not to difficult, a few steep sections... on the weekend this place can feel sort of crowded like a tourist spot... Ferry fees are 42 per person return.. not sure about children sorry..

Stunning walk and views. Fast and easy ferry to get there also which really makes it feel like an event and a special walk

A harsh environment, good footwear is a must. Plan your trail in advance due to the limited ferry timetable. For alternative routes back form the summit there are no times listed. We opted for a loop track which was less steep, with beautiful boardwalk through the tree canopy. But we found ourselves hobbling over the volcanic rocks for the last ferry. No chance even for a swim in the turquoise water close by the jetty. On relfection only option was up and back the summit track, which seems a shame.

It took some time money and efforts to get here. One you are at the top you can see lots. Words cannot describe and you need to climb up here and see.
