Went there without a booking. Both Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Was able to rent a car for a couple of hours out of town for sightseeing. Terms & pricing were clearly explained. No hassle as well when returning the car. Highly recommended !

Useless. I emailed straight after making booking to confirm about credit card and colour available. They confirmed must have Credit Card and Mustang available for my booking is red, only to get an email that went straight to spam to say booking was cancelled. Rang up when went to pick up and office was closed, to be told car is not available till a few days later. So basically left high and dry. Next time they should ring cancel a booking! That is the "SMART" thing to do. Just common courtesy. I recommend Hertz, they rent the same vehicle for a little cheaper. Only reason I went with "SMART" is because they had cool pics on Facebook.
We hired the mustang as a wedding car and found Smart Car Rental very easy to deal with. The car had a bit of wear and tear but nothing major and great for the price!
Rental went smoothly, but I'm unable to return the car keys. Which is pretty hilarious if I didn't have to go out of my way to walk to their lot to try and return the keys.... I rented the car for 4 days and requested late drop off at 7pm, which I was charged extra for. No problem. But when I arrived at 6pm to drop the car off the gate was closed, the only spot to park the car was taken and there wasn't a key drop box (how is this not a thing?). I called the airport number and the city number a couple times each and got through to the city location and was told to park the car in front of the gate and I could drop the keys off tomorrow (now today). I work so I told the person on the phone that I would be by between 5 and 6pm, and he said no problem. I got there today at 5 40pm and the gate was closed and no one was there. I tried calling both locations a few times and got no answer. There isn't even voice mail set up :(. I've messaged the online chat feature as well and have no response. This is pretty frustrating. Anyways if you guys can contact me (the number that's called you 8 times in the last couple days), that'd be great. We can arrange for you to come pickup the keys from me. I work full time so I can't keep coming to your lot for it to be shut down and have no way of contacting you. I'm also very surprised no one called me before they left and shut down today.
Loved the ride in XC90. The only place where you can hire luxury cars at affordable price.
We were after a small car just for a day trip to Piha. Mani from Smart Car Rental was incredibly kind, helpful and supportive with that. Absolut hassle-free and quick pick-up in downtown Auckland and the same at the drop-off close to the airport. Mani even gave us a ride to the domestic terminal of the airport! Thanks so much for that! I highly recommend Smart Car Rentals and next time we hire one of their pretty Mustangs!
Excellent service from start to finish. Trustworthy, friendly and reliable. We dealt with Mani the whole way through and he was understanding and accommodating. Mani helped me to organise all the fine details like getting picked up and dropped off and was patient in explaining the insurance etc. We thought he owned the company he was so professional! Would recommend this company.
