Over the last year Ingrid Jean O’Connor has had a detrimental affect on my mental health she has consistently talked down to me and made myself and my family think that my condition is not as serious as previous licensed doctors, psychiatrists and psychologists have claimed. This has had a huge impact on myself and has caused my relationship with the family to deteriorate. She is not suitable to be working in mental health and just goes to show that NZ is lacking experienced mental health experts that would actually improve the health of patients. If you’re someone who can’t afford private healthcare with psychiatrists/psychologists I cannot stress enough that you must decline seeing Ingrid Jean O’Connor if you want to have a positive experience and get on the right path to a healthy recovery. I highly recommend Stefan as he treats his patients with respect and has a very open mind to all sorts of mental health issues. So as I said before avoid Ingrid as she doesn’t have an open mind and will neglect you as she thinks she knows what’s best for you. And I can promise you she doesn’t and has had the biggest negative impact from anyone I’ve ever dealt with in the mental health community.

Absolutely shockingly bad service. Go to your GP or private health care provider (counselor or psychologist etc), your mental health is very important and it's worth it.

Want to stuff up your mental health? Come to Taharoto road mental health centre! Jokes aside this place is shocking. After years of therapy a family member of mine is worse than they have ever been! The “advice and support” they give clients does not better or help them at all! Rather than helping people form friendships, get jobs/volenteer work or offer classes of interest to the individual to join they just offer more therapy? Why does someone who is already seeing a therapist need to see another one? I would not recommend anyone to go to Taharoto Road mental health centre, it can have dangerous effects on people who are already struggling.

If you have mental problem do yourself a favor and avoid this place. I should have trusted all these reviews to begin with. Learn from our mistakes.

Worthy of a zero star rating. Very bad service, doesn't accomplish anything. Assessment team didn't know basic therapy options available in the community, and they didn't seem interested in providing any help whatsoever. Suggested going to my doctor (who made the original referral) and trying to make do on my own, saying they didn't have the resources to help. No offer to transfer me to Manukau Mental Health (which is 1000% better but a long distance away) or any other place who would be more helpful. It's been a merry go round for the past year even to get a sensible therapist to speak to at North Shore. Appalling.
