This well developed walkway features trails, paved pathways, raised wooden walkways and bridges, and a few stairways. It is great for walking and running, and is popular with locals for dog walking and exercise. It takes a total of about 40 to 45 minutes to walk completely around the basin, and there are plenty of benches to sit and relax on along the way. There are also several boat ramps with parking, and one free parking area. The Basin walkway can be accessed from many points, and is never closed. There is a shopping center on the northwest side, on Orekai Road, with an organic grocery store, restaurants, and cafes, including a few that serve drinks or beers. A great place to spend a few hours for a relaxing walk!

Lovely and serene place to get exercise. The close proximity to the city is nice. Has multiple entry and exit points. Takes about 30 - 45 mins to do a full walk. If you just need to get out and go for a small walk or have a think, would recommend. Usually dogs off leash walking about as well (a plus for me).

Nice walk with relatively easy directions to follow. Just what I needed to clear my head and be refreshed! It was great to see a lot of people enjoying the walkway too- there were families with small children who were delighted at the sight of the train passing by, lots of people walking their dogs and the occasionally, couples on a date. I liked how peaceful it was, that there are local shops and cafes nearby and how close the walkway is to the train and parking areas. Just need to watch out for the cars who can drive by quickly on the main road!

An easy 3k walk, with a couple of sets of steps along the way. You'll get around it lazily in 30-40 mins. Expect a lot of dogs as you go.

Great walkway for families, with great views and tons of friendly doggos enjoying the pathway as well! It will take you about 45 mins to an hour to walk the entire pathway from start to end. It was enjoyable and relaxing.

Great family walk or exercise loop. Be sure to leave the bikes and scooters at home though. Steps and gravel sections not suitable. Dog friendly.

It will be good to go Orakei Basin every week or every other week. What an excellent walkway for causal walk. ( average spending around 45 mins ) A couple of entry places can start your trail, easy to park your car or even take the AT train there. ( close to a train station ). Good to seeing ppl enjoy the park here, walking, run, water sport, picnic, walk with dog.... or even take photos, so many activities you can do here. Friendly reminder: bring water, hat with you, jacket ( windy sometime ) Surprising you can see the Auckland cityline from some spot here. ( if you have a visitor coming, you can bring him/ her here to take some touristy photos also).

Came to the basin to Kayak as it was to rough at mission bay. Great to paddle around basin and up the tributaries. Will definitely come back to do the walkway. It looked great from the water.
