Took our young kids. Was flat and able to use a pushchair. Was worth a visit.

I’m giving you zero stars for the management of the wetlands. I use to come to the wetlands frequently when I was younger, and I also knew the founder. I am still shocked at how poorly this resource has been managed. My star rating reflects the poor management which has resulted into this wetlands looking more and more like a farm and less and less like water bird habitat. I don’t know how to express my disappointment enough. It looks like due to poor management no one cares so you are burning an iconic landmark in NZ. Someone needs to pull their finger out and do something before it’s gone for ever! I have the correct wetland obviously, I also mentioned I spent much of my time on it and knew the former owner before this happened.... Ducks Unlimited sold the Sinclair Wetlands about 20 years ago to the Government and it became part of the Treaty Settlement with Nga Tahu .

This wetland is amazing. It is huge! Over 3000000 Sq metres. The original owner was ahead of his time. Could hear the fern birds calling but they are good at hiding amongst the vegetation. There is camping sites available. Very quiet beautiful location.
