Climbing up the Scott’s Track. Don’t go without proper boots and equipment. Check in with the local DOC office before you go. It’s a steep climb but worth it when you’re up there.

A great drive up to the village with wonderful views. Great food at cafe and incredible to see a kea having a play outside the cafe

Beautiful area. It doesn’t have the initial oomph and grandeur of Mount Cook but driving along the river with the mountain ranges in the distance is quite a treat. Lots of short walks to start off with ending in either waterfalls or rivers and walking under a lovely beech forest festooned with green moss. If fit enough, it’s a must to climb to Avalanche peak and get 360 degree views.

Loved the national park! It really feels like you're in the wilderness. The town centre is as big as one tiny street, so you're not surrounded with crowds, but with like minded people who wanna take in the clean air, mountains and gorgeous views. I would have happily spent a week there discovering more tracks, if we had more time. It's a must see place if you're into hiking and wildlife

This National park is excellent and I defintely recommend to stop by it for at least a day trip if you don't have the time for a multi-day track. The views are quite simply spectacular, and chances are, you will meet a cheeky Kea, who will try to take something from you. I happened to see both a camera and a chocolate bar being taken, what will you see?
