We have been skiing at BR for over 30 years so of course we rate it highly. Last Saturday was the busiest ever and there was a problem with the train so there were lots of delays, but few complaints. Loads of families and the kids were having a ball. An exhausting but exhilarating experience. Wimps and whingers stay away.

Great little club field nestled in the Southern Alps. Good for all levels of skiers, and has one of the easier rope tows to use

One unique place with a lot of hatelove feeling. Broken river is shaped like a big bowl and very often you get fresh newblown snow over the old tracks. The downside, if you want to call it that, is the roptowing with the nutcracker belt you need to get up to the lodge and at the mountain. The nutcracker is the tool to attract the rope so you can get up and not squeeze you fingers in the wheels that a pull the rope up. It's bit easier for a skier but for snowboarder you have to go swich or have the rope behind you and in the end of the day you get quite exhausted. The locals say the rope towing is keeping all the rookies away so the ski field is it's doesn't get crowded. The road to the ski field is is nice and not so long and at the parking is a nice elevator to take you up the stairs and the reception. Then you have to get to the rope towing where you get to the lodge or to the top of the mountain. It's two big roptowing to take you to the top of the mountain and one to take you even farther up. I had a good time in broken river, but the roptowing takes so much energy if you not use to it. But it's one of the best club field in Canterbury.

Could be improved The goods lift / person lift is out of service for the season. Be prepared for mean, slippery 40 minute hike with all equipment, backpack, beer up to ticket lodge. Rope tows here are more difficult than at Craigieburn next door, and with less vertical. Main tow here is running faster than any Craigieburn rope-tow, doesn't have much clearance to the first pulley and is long. Getting up all 3 tows at Craigieburn is much easier and less straining than once up main-tow at BR, and you get twice the effective run and much more terrain options. The daylodge, Lyndon Lodge , is great with excellent beer (BR lager). Accommodation is small bunk beds in 4 or 6 bed rooms. You're expected to do one or two minor chores per day. BR has friendly, family vibe with decent terrain, but its in my view strictly dominated Craigieburn with a better tow system, no long hike to get in and far more terrain and vertical.

Clubbie vibes, good beer and fun terrain (love those chutes!)
