Had an awesome lesson with Mark! He is an amazing instructor who is in love with the ocean and who loves to share his stoke for surfing! I would highly recommend having surf lessons with him if you are traveling through Westport and looking to learn something new whilst having lots of fun!

Mark was an awesome teacher! And great guy. My husband, 12 yr old and 8 yr old had a shortened beginners lesson. They loved it. Lesson includes board and wetsuit hire. And you get extra time afterwards to practice or play. Really great value for money compared to other activities we’ve done like horse riding at Punakaiki and white water rafting in Buller gorge. The surfing lesson at Tauranga Bay was the best and most family fun. I would have liked to but had a sore ankle. Tauranga Bay is beautiful and great surf. Allow about 3-4 hours I reckon. We only had 1.5 hours and ended up there for like 2.5 hours. He also offers boards and wetsuits for hire if you don’t need a lesson I think.
Tauranga bay is extremely beautiful, Mark was very friendly and patience for his students. The lesson is very helpful. Highly recommend.

We had a great afternoon with Mark (1 Beginner, 1 Intermediate). Although it was a rainy day and the conditions weren't perfect in the water, Mark's guidance and positive energy ensured that we felt comfortable and relaxed. We would recommend Mark and West Coast Surf to everyone. Thanks to Mark for a fantastic experience and for teaching me efficiently and having me standing on my first wave. I will definitely be coming back.
Great introduction in surfing, with some theory beforehand. When we hit the water Mark kept an eye on everyone and was telling what went right and wrong. We were only with 4 people so it almost felt like a private lesson. Go here if you're looking for some proper guidance in getting to stand up on the board.
My partner and I rented some boards and wetsuits from Mark. Equipment was in a good condition and he gave us guidance on the best spot to start off in, given it had been a while since we'd surfed last. Wasn't stood on sure timing us with the returns either. Would definitely go with Mark again.
