Staff were disgraceful. We had a couple drinks (early start for work) at our hotel and decided we'd go for a look at the Carlton. Since it was within walking distance from our accommodation. We work 12hours a day so this was the first time we decided to treat ourselves going out for a few drinks. So we definitely weren't looking to get tragic. And we definitely werent tragic showing up, keeping in mind we have work the next day. The live music was rocking the bar staff were treating us like 'all eyes on us' definitely not in a good way..I love a good yarn and I had wee chat with the bar guy (I have a partner) and there was no line but the other bar lady asked why you taking so long serving her? The tone in her voice, was annoyance. She made sure I heard her. One of our friends went up for a beer and in return was told, to leave there is no way your getting another drink. He felt ashamed and humiliated. We felt targeted for him and his partner for being gay. And if that wasnt the case then why as we left did the security apologize that shes not actually apart of the staff of Carlton shes just hired to man the door through another agency. And recommended to us another bar where our 'kind' would be accepted

These guys specialise in meat, steak hung in their drying cabinet on display. The mixed grill was huge and the service was very proffesional.

Hi was staying locally, and recommend to eat here.but Staff were friendly and very accomodating ...... but the food was less than average : The salad was lame and the duck roasted potatoes were worse. Not even cooked, can’t believe they can get meal so basic wrong. The fish was nicely cooked, everything needed seasoning. The premises are lovely and staff, but that is all

We had another couple from family down from Waikato for weekend and wanted a nice special dinner. From a late booking through the dining experience...we had a lovely experience with the very busy but awesome staff members. The high standard of service impressed us - they were all very professional but also lovely and friendly - thank you. Our compliments to the Chef who provided excellent food, cooked beautifully. We were particularly impressed with the Maître D who presented the food to the correct person without asking who ordered what, and our lovely waitress who was very attentive, but not intrusive. Thank you so much Carlton Restaurant and bar, for a lovely special family dinner. We will definitely be back.

Did I hear you say Wings Wednesday? 6 per dozen of wings on a Wednesday - finger licking good!! One of our work rituals is to pop down to The Carlton every couple of Wednesdays for Wings Wednesday. They also do delicious coffees, and have great loyalty rewards!!

Have to wait a while for meals when not that busy. The roast pork was beautiful but some veges were raw and not worth the money.

Great wine and live music. Ordered 2 different steak meals (both at least 30ea) and was somewhat disappointed with the small portion.
