A world class train trip from coast to coast. Food is pricey and not really a great selection but the scenery is too die for. On of New Zealand’s best train trips.

Great experience. Good seating with very wide windows. You can view from open carriage. Scenery spectacular. Facilities on board to purchase food and coffee..

Really lovely experience, went 1st class, the food and service was very good, so much food and generous with drinks too! Enjoyed the trip commentary and the stunning scenery

Really enjoyed it but one way was enough. Cafe was absolutely fine.

Scenic plus so worth it. Staff very personable, food good always something to look , hear about history while being served. You see a different perspective by train, cross land not near roadways.

Great trip. Train not very full so had 4 seat area with table for the two of us. Food and drink prices better than expected.

Honestly a huge disappointment!! It doesn't even go through the right pass to be called transalpine. Views were average and the windows are too dirty to get any good photos or footage. For the price of the ticket would you expect to be sitting opposite someone for 5 hours with no leg room? The "scenic plus" is literally just the same as the other seats but with drinks included. Food was worse than airline slop. Even going to the bathroom is a huge hazard and I have a big brusie on my arm from falling into sharp object. Most trains are not this rough. I paid the same amount to get an unlimited rail pass on the smooth japan rail. New Zealand is ripping off tourists with a majority of it's attractions. Service was average and all the employees looked unhappy to be there.
