In my opinion , the MOST AMAZING and INTRIGUING Museum in the Lakes District! Just the model of the old town showing where the waterline is today is well worth the visit! You can literally spend HOURS here! View the monumental earthmoving feats that built the Dam that flooded Cromwell and created what we have here today, the moving of the town, and the excellent local history photographic collection. You have to have your photograph taken in front of the legendary Haast Eagle - It's MASSIVE!! I NEVER TIRE COMING HERE FREQUENTLY!! Very enthusiastic, welcoming and knowledgeable staff. No trip to Cromwell is complete without coming here!!

Cromwell has an amazing history, from the impact on the town of the construction of the Clyde Dam in the 70s, 80s and early 90s, through to the mining history of the late 1800s. Cromwell Museum captures that history very well. We are still fascinated by how the dam and formation of Lake Dunstan changed Cromwell.

The moment I step in the museum a lovely old lady approach me and start to introduce everything in the museum to me. I can see her passion doing her work and I respect that. She's willing to share everything and I felt so touching that when she tells me every single stories. What a wonderful place to be!

Provide you a very brief history of the Cromwell. Love the way they preserved the snaps and articulated the story.they run on gold coin donation, no entry fee. It gives you a glimpse of how the city evolved. They also have a vintage bike and a car. They have some pictures of first school and mining era. Plus some vintage tools used in mining. Very well preserved.

Very interesting little museum about the construction of the Clyde Dam and its impact on Cromwell, notably with the flooding of Old Cromwell Town. Free entry. Good collection of gold mining items and other interesting displays. Amazing amount of pictures taken before, during and after the construction of the dam.
