Channel 9 was announced on October 27th, 1994 and launched originally as the local tourism channel shortly thereafter in 1995. In 1997 with changes in the local broadcast landscape, the station took on the challenge of evolving to become Dunedin's local television station. The station has operated to the current day, producing and broadcasting a huge amount of locally focussed programming over its years of operation. More recently undertook the change to digital television. The station has now become Channel 39 Dunedin Television and broadcasts on channel 39 of the Freeview|HD platform from Mount Cargill.
