I did pony club as a young teen and still adore horse riding. I jump at any chance to get close to a horse, even when travelling. I rode a horse up Mount Vesuvius once! Because I used to live in Port Chalmers, I would often do lessons with Oliver Goldsmith from Hare Hill Horse Trekking. We’d take a ride on Aramoana Beach or up one of the hills of his property. Oliver has been around for a while now. My favourite horse is Mac, who is Oliver’s special horse. Mac even featured in my music video, Preservation. Nadia Reid - Art & Culture Expert

My daughter had the best fun I think she's ever had riding along the beach! Thank you Hare Hill.
Excellent riding experience! Really enjoy the time with Oliver and his horses!
Hare hill horse treks is awesome, highly recommend it.
We had the pleasure of taking an alpine trail ride with both Oliver and Laura. By far and most the highlight of our trip to Dunedin. Not only for the wonderous views of the inner port, and surrounding mountains but also for the local history and knowledge that Oliver imparted whilst we rode. This is an excellent adventure for children, even with little to no experience of horse riding. All their horses are the most friendly beautiful animals. Especially Jack. Truly a memorable adventure and would recommend to anyone wanting to experience genuine hospitality and such beautiful scenery. Thank you again to all at hare hill.
Thank you to Oliver and Laura for an amazing horse riding experience with our family. Oliver's knowledge of the area being a local of many decades made for very interesting talks during our time there and was such a wonderful difference from typical cruise shore excursions. This was the first time I've booked an activity that wasnt through a ship and i will never look back! The horses were beautiful and the view was the better than you could ever imagine. The trek was peaceful and our 6 and 8 year old girls had an amazing time (this was our 6 year olds first proper time on a horse and she found it very easy). They haven't stopped talking about it! We would do it again in a heartbeat, and the cost was far cheaper than I ever expected. Thank you Oliver and of course the horses - Lucas, Cassie, Summer and Jack!!
We came for a beach horse ride, and it was quite pleasant, even with the winds. We didn't get to see any penguins, however we did see some seals and other animals on the beach, which was great. The tour went for quite a long time, allowing us to see a lot of the scenery, and the tour guide also took some photos of us on the horses at various places. The biggest drawback was probably just that we weren't really 'riding' per se. Rather, we were on horseback while the guide walked the horse around by their lead - I guess we were expecting the guide to also be on horseback so we could have covered a lot more area. That said, it was a good experience, the staff were friendly, and the horses were lovely.
I always enjoy riding with Oliver and his lovely horses.
