AVB places great emphasis on the ‘build-ability’ of their designs. This is achieved by building physical scale models first and drawing thereafter, this is a initiative approach to the design process. This design process starts as rough cardboard models and ends with highly refined computerized 3D printed models. This means that the clients, and technical experts involved in the design period, all know exactly what AVB’s organic building forms will look like, and how they are to be constructed, well before they are built. A significant feature of this know-how is also demonstrated that a substantial project is undertaken by a very small but highly skilled team of specialists directed by Fred van Brandenburg and executed by a talented team led by Damien van Brandenburg and Griff Humphries. AVB’ studios has a capable team of designers who can undertake traditional architectural services, but the studios do not carry them out in a traditional way: the appearance of these studios look more like workshops rather than a drafting office. They are littered with models – some current, and many abandoned proto-types, all for one purpose - to strive for perfection.
