My partner and I stayed here on a last-minute whim and rated it highly. Affordable private room with lollies and strawberries waiting for us (nice touch on valentine's day). Enjoyed the free soup, board games and cozy living room. Free breakfast was also appreciated, with toast, cereals and waffles/pancakes. Would stay again!

Great motel and backpackers right in the centre of Franz Josef with extremely comfortable beds! Not too far from the four square and the variety of restaurants in the town. The backpackers provides a free soup every night which was light but still delicious if you're after a free feed! Free breakfast as well which included waffles! (Would be even better when guests learn how to use the waffle machine and not burn it). But very pleasant stay and throughly enjoyed the facilities here.
Great accommodation, stayed in the double private room and it was excellent, very comfy bed as well. Free soup for dinners, free breakfast. Only bummer was the laundry room, washer and dryer didn’t do the best job. But other than that, excellent stay!
I forgot my Kindle and the staff took care of it and even offered to post it to where I am from. Thanks for again for the kindness! Hostel is great, nice breakfast and soup in the afternoon :)
The rooms have all the necessary kitchen facilities, including cooker, microwaves, water heater, toaster and so on. The mattress and shower were not so good but ok. They have great big shared cooking facilities, free homemade soup after 6pm and laundry room. They also have more common areas where you can sit and play board games, vending machine and they sell sandwiches. There is free breakfast included which consists of coffee, tea, milk, toast with butter, jam and chocolate spread. They also have pancake batter and cereals. The atmosphere is lively and nice and it has a great view of the mountains.
Far better than expected. We spend last night at Chateau and were impressed by the pretty room and by all the great amenities. Nice spa for us alone, a gym, two well equipped kitchens, yummy free soup, nice breakfast in the morning. Everything really clean and original in style. Really friendly manager
You get so much for the price that you pay compared to some other places in NZ. We stayed in a private room with ensuite. It was clean, comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped, the free breakfast had plenty of options, the wifi was good, and the free soup was delicious. They also had plenty of board games for those rainy days and the shared spaces are quirky and beautiful.
Cannot recommend this hostel enough. The beds are super comfortable so you get a decent night of sleep. You also have access to hot tub, gym area and there’s also a tv with Netflix on it. Unlimited WiFi is also included and it’s pretty decent. In the evening you get veggie soup. In the morning you get the most amazing breakfast - I ate so many pancakes! The staff are super friendly and can give advice on what to do in the area. Overall, we’ve had a great experience here. If you’re in the area, well worth staying here - you get a lot for your money.
