A must do on your west coast trip! I loved it! Such an awesome experience and welcoming atmosphere. Carved my own pounamu to gift to my family. And learnt a lot about the different types of pounamu. Took roughly an hour and a half to 2 hours. It's very affordable even for those on a backpackers budget like myself. You don't need to have any artistic background whatsoever.

Really nice gallery with some amazing stones and you can carve your own piece. Run by a very nice lady who's an expert in Pounamu.

After becoming stuck in Franz Josef with the recent storm damage we had a wonderful time with Jan and her family, carving beautiful authentic Greenstone. I will wear my necklace proudly! I would recommend this activity to anyone, regardless of the weather!
