5 hours hike up to 1,500 metres. All worth it, as the view is breathtaking.

A long slog to get to the top with a relatively similar environment as you ascend however most definitely worth the views at the top! My friends and I reached the top around mid day and with good weather you get panoramic views. There is toilet at the start and top of the track. The track is not technically challenging but does require an adequate level of fitness to reach the top comfortablely. There are sections of the route which you will need to go up grass but most of the route is well marked and you can easily walk in groups of 3.

I need to be honest that this is a hard slog. The track is brilliant and has been really well looked after by the great folks at DOC. But the end views at the summit and the top are well worth the slog. Absolutely wonderful days hiking. Take a packed lunch and enjoy the beautiful Wanaka area.

We were lucky to be the only ones on the mountain at sunset. It's exhausting, but push through the pain knowing that there will be an amazing view up top. The walk took us about 2hr 45min up and just under 2 hours down. We wanted to stay longer and enjoy the view but it was getting cold and dark. The sheep are quite entertaining and will support you most of the way! Remember to pay the 2 track fee to support the farmers who let us enjoy this track.

This day hike has become very popular in recent years - and for a good reason. You'll have to earn your rewards on this 16km hike (8km each way) but the views are worth it - panoramas of the Southern Alps and Mt Aspiring, Lake Wanaka and the islands. The parking lot is about 6km from Wanaka along the Mt Aspiring road. There's a 2 fee based on an honesty system since you're crossing private farmland. The hike is pretty much uphill the whole way with the steepest parts being the first 45 minutes and the last 30 min section from the viewpoint to the summit. It's important to pace yourself and not start out too quickly - find the right rhythm for your body. It will take 1.5-2.5 hrs to reach the viewpoint and another 30-45 minutes to get to the summit. You'll gain around 1,300m in elevation. Allow 5-7 hours to complete the hike - and give yourself time to enjoy the views. Many stop at the viewpoint (especially the social influencers and Instagrammers!) but its worth the extra effort to get to the summit. The trail is well marked and non-technical with no shelter from the sun so you should aim to start before 9am if possible. There's a toilet at the start and one at the viewpoint. Take plenty of water (2 litres) and a windproof shell as the winds can be strong at the top. A change of t-shirt is also a good idea as they're usually sweat-soaked by the time you get to the summit. And of course don't forget sunscreen. The DOC website provides useful information about the hike. If you think this might be a bit too strenuous for you or you have limited time the Diamond Lake and Rocky Mountain summit hike a few kilometres further along the road might be a nice alternative. The track to Rocky Mountain summit is 7km return with an elevation gain of only 775m and can be done in under 3 hours. Take the eastern route and you'll get great views of Lake Wanaka.

Awesome hike to this lookout. In 2019 there was a bit of a line to take pictures at the lookout as people can spend some time there once they have reached the top taking pictures. There is a stream on the way up that was very helpful for cooling off! Took us about 4.5 round trip, mind you we ran half the way down and waited at the top to get some photos as there was a small line of folks in front of us doing various poses. Lots of sheep and bunnies along the way! Make sure to bring lots of water. 1 litre per person was not enough for us. The parking has lots of room and there is a small donation bin at the front of the path. There is also a bathroom at the very bottom so make sure to go before you trek up!

Absolutely awesome! The Walk to the first lookout is about 2,5hours (with stops for taking photos) and another 30 min to the top. The View is incredible!

Ok, so the DOC info at the car park states that the trek is for people with low to moderate fitness....I would strongly suggest that this trek is for people with moderate to high fitness levels. No matter what the views are absolutely worth the 4 hour trek up the mountain
