Good Heavens is a company that aims to delight visitors with comfortable, enlightening and magical stargazing experiences under the spectacular starry sky of Great Barrier Island, New Zealand. Whether our guests are after a stepping stone for further exploration of the universe or a one-off enlightening experience, we invite them to join us for a night of beauty, wonderment and stories under the stars. Great Barrier Island is accredited as one of only four International Dark Sky Sanctuaries in the world. With minimal light pollution this is a superb place to learn more about the stars. Good Heavens guides visitors through constellations, special stars and deep sky objects unique to the southern hemisphere. Visitors will see the moon close up if she is visible or the Milky Way if she isn't and they may view some of our planets in greater detail. Being local, our guides will give you glimpses into their lives on our off the grid and isolated island. They will tell you how Great Barrier Island has become a Dark Sky Sanctuary, and what makes our island so special. During our experiences, our guests use their naked eyes, our night-time binoculars and our 8"​ Newtonian telescope. They are comfortable, leaning back in our moon chairs while looking up, snuggled up in a blanket when it is cold.
