Good for kids
Really nice arboretum in the middle of Selwyn district. Greendale doesn't have a lot of attractions apart from the golf course but definitely worth the drive. Lots of massive trees (150 years old) with description of the species. Plenty of walnuts to pick up this time of the year (autumn) plus lots of peace and tranquility (was empty on a Saturday afternoon when we visited). Entrance is free. Well maintained. Toilets nearby in the community center.

Quite a gem basically in the middle of nowhere. A great destination for a short day trip from Chch or a picnic.
Great picnic area. Watch out for sharps in the rubble next to the historic sod cottage though
Interesting history of trees in Canterbury and early farming in the central regions.
