Zalamero Eureka Smoothies is a Young Enterprise start up, part of the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES), that is bringing a whole new vista to the food industry, in particular the smoothie market. Comprising of five young entrepreneurs from the Waikato region, Zalamero aims to provide all New Zealanders with a heathy bottled smoothie – “the handmade way” – that is both thick and nourishing. From our kitchen in the small Waikato farming village of Eureka, we set to work developing a 100% natural, thick and FULL FLAVOURED recipe. A vibrant fusion of rich anti-oxidant fruit and veges. Why? You may ask. Did you know that almost 1 in 3 New Zealanders over the age of 15 are obese, bringing the total number of obese and overweight to 67% of New Zealand's population? In fact, New Zealand ranks as the country with the third highest obesity rates in the world. Yes, it's true! We identified this as one of the biggest issues of our generation, so as a team we discovered a common belief that it is time to make a change. Zalamero is a passionate company who believes in adding the 'happy' to 'healthy' so we can make the world a better place, together.
