The only segment of mature indigenous native forest left in North Otago. Totara, Rimu, Matai, Miro trees aged in the hundreds of years, while some upwards of 1,000 years. Also saw the native birds like the fan tail and kereru (New Zealand pigeon). Someone had the foresight to save them from destruction - they were going to be on the chopping block.

Beautiful forest and clearly marked walking tracks. Would have been 5 stars if the track to the waterfall had been open instead of closed for logging.
