Down the dusty track and on the left you’ll find the gate for Huketere Lodge and the campaign ground - Gabi’s place! Once on the grounds the old colonial style house overviews the camping ground that leads to the beach. Over the sand dunes and down onto the wind swept expansive 90 mile beach! Get up early and catch the ride as well as collecting pipi from the foreshore.

A wonderful restful beautiful place. Gabrielle was amazing. Spoilt us with amazing breakfasts every day. Definitely coming back. The wild horses and miniature ponies were magic.
We had an awesome experience in Hukatere It's one of the best camping place in New Zealand.
No hot water for the showers because the "pump couldn't cope" and toilets got blocked constantly, meaning there was often only 2 functioning toilets for the whole campsite. Such a shame as the location is beautiful, lovely and remote, quiet and incredible sunsets, but the facilities meant it just felt a bit like a DOC site.
Amazing place. I strongly recommend this place for a perfect evening.
While biking from Cape Reinga we stayed a night with Gabi. Huakatere Lodge was like an Oasis in the Desert and Gabi the most gracious of Hosts. Greeted warmly by Gabi with Cappucino followed by a hot shower. The accomodation was superb. Delightful, well appointed with privacy.We would highly recommend Gabi and her Lodge
There is really not much wrong with the place and we could handel the facilities not being adequate for the amount of people. But unfortunately the host / owner Gabi makes being at Hukatere very unpleasant. Not only for us, but we heard many complaints from people while camping there. If not for her we would return.
