Southland Astronomical Society Observatory in Invercargill is New Zealand's southernmost observatory. Operated by Southland Astronomical Society but owned by the Southland Museum and Art Gallery, it is situated on the western side of the museum building. As it is located in the central city it is not ideal for viewing due to light pollution from the city. The location does make it easily accessible and means some people who may not ever get to see through a telescope can easily get the opportunity. The telescope, although old is still quite capable. Members of the society are enthusiastic and love to show its capabilities on the open nights. (Normally during winter due to early darkness).
