Mansion Hut

A 2 hour / 7.9km walk in from the Irthing Stream picnic area/campground. A fairly flat walk in with a crossing of the Irthing stream necessary so expect wet feet. The Mansion hut is sited on a small terrace and is a 2 bunk hut with open fire. The hut itself is a pretty dark and cold hut so going in warmer days would be better. However at the time of this writing, (June 2019), Permolat Southland is looking at doing this gut up and clearing back some trees surrounding the hut to let some light in. There is no toilet here also but hopefully that to will be remedied soon. A good walk in and a good healthy population of Sand flies to greet you. Be mindful of hunters in this valley. Deer numbers are fairly low at this time also.
