It is not free as in CHC. They charge 12 per adult, 10 per student ID and like wise.. as it is a self funded museum. So if u expect it is free, u need not to visit. It is inside Kaikoura district council. On the left hand side it is the museum which recalls the earth quake. On the right hand side, it is the general museum. The museum spreads along the ground floor only. It would not take more than 30-40mins to finish it all. The place it kept nice and tidy. You have a visitos' toilet too. My honest opinion is , I am doubtful whether it worth the price u pay.

Great old memorabilia from days of old. Great portraits of history in Kaikoura. Movie on earthquake touching and emotional. So raw at the time. Well done Kaikoura, you rebuild is spectacular

Very nice for a regional museum. Lots of interesting information, including a slowly expanding section on the earthquake.

Visited Museum with a research query and the staff member concern was very professional and ever so helpful. Suggested a number of avenues to try, which I am in process of checking. I have no hesitation in recommending the museum as a "Must See" location.

Amazing and emotions felt from earthquake display from the community.. in other parts of museum good space for wheelchairs and so much history, even simple nature boxs for children to learn about mamals/birds and more I would had liked to stay for the whole day east if we were not passing through. Definitely worth it and I'm definitely going back

Having never been to Kaikoura before. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the museum. They had The Kaikoura Earthquake Exibition on, very interesting. Well done to the team of workers who rebuilt the main driving route (State Highway 1) through this beautiful place, only took 10 months...
