Great place for big families. Loved the kitchen.. Would recommend for any coming up to Kataia. Room was perfect for my big family. See you next time I'm up in the north mate.

Good and affordable place to stay in Kaitaia. The dorm rooms get hot inside but if you ask the receptionist they will give you a fan for the room. The shared kitchen is huge however the frying pans and scrubbers could stand to be replaced as they are worn and not in good condition. The toilets are OK But there’s only 3 for the backpackers with a communal tub sink outside and the showers are fine. Location is next door to KFC and a bit of a walk to Pak n’ Save but quick by car. I did the Cape Reinga tour and pick up was at the backpackers which was convenient. Wifi was decent but not fast by any means. Dorm room was comfortable enough. Carpets were clean. Families stay here and people who are living there long term with an occasional traveller. Not much of a backpacker atmosphere to meet people unless you have someone in your room perhaps like I did.

We had a private room with ensuite. The bed and bed linen were sooo comfy and quality plus! The rest of the unit was tired but it was a comfortable nights stay. Would definitely return.
Excellent place. Very helpful owner/manager, and huge clean well equipped and organised kitchen, TV room and pool table and ping-pong table. Plus a wood fired pizza oven which they'll start up on request.

Stayed at beachcombers to work and this was probably the best backpackers i have stayed in. The staff are extremely friendly and make you feel welcome and at home. An experience I will never forget and regret having to leave. Clean facilities good wifi and options to tent or sleep in van
