Lovely relaxing peaceful place to stay would have helped if the guy that checked us in knew English but I think he was covering over the holiday period... Would stay again

My mum does not speak English and missed her connecting flight from Auckland to Wellington last night and there is no flight for the night! After few phone call and research I contacted Karaka Country Retreat and Bobby did not only just picked up my mum from the airport also offer her a quick meal. My mum only had 70 cash on her that was not enough to get taxi from the retreat to airport this morning.Bobby lent my mum 100 in cash. Thanks heaps for your help !!!

Great Host. Very relaxed environment. Owners made our group feel vey welcome & they were very flexible. The weather was a bit harsh but the comforts of their lounge & kitchen were appreciated as a group.

Lovely setting. Language barrier was a hassle but not impossible hence 4 stars

Would make it less than one star if I could. Non-english speaking owners who couldn't care less and take their sweet time helping you get into your room and checking out. Really uncomfortable bunk beds and dirty bathroom. Wouldn't recommend anyone to stay here unless you have zero alternatives.

The place was not clean, the units do not have any utensils, you have to go to the communal Kitchen. The fridge that was in the room was very very small. I had to leave early due certain circumstances and they were NOT willing to give a refund. Found this place to be very expensive , the price doesn't change weather there is 2 or 3 people. The shower was Cold. For the price of the accommodation was not good at all . My dog got stung by a wasp there and I ended up at the emergency vet,
