Kawerau Enterprise Agency Incorporated (KEA) is a connected community and economic development partner. The organisation was originally established in 1985 to stimulate new business in Kawerau. Twenty eight years later, KEA is still very much focused on attracting, supporting and expanding business, and driving collaborative community development. KEA is unique, in that it is a charitable trust and an incorporated society with a governing board. The current board hold a variety of positions within the Eastern Bay of Plenty business community. The passion, experience and connections of KEA’s board provide the foundation for organisation’s ongoing success and sustainability. KEA‘s purpose is to contribute to increased economic development; business confidence, improved job prospects and community pride. Working alongside people who want to see the town of Kawerau thrive and grow, KEA’s vision is to retain and grow the population, marketing the town as a great place to live and work. Also known for its support of a range of enterprise and community development projects – KEA’s current involvement in the community is diverse. It includes: representation on Industrial Symbiosis Kawerau, representation on the virtual retirement village project and Kawerau Proud – a group of locals developing strategies to market to Motor Caravanners. KEA also sponsors local groups like the Tarawera High School Junior Boys and Junior Girls Volley Ball team and annual events such as the National Woodskills championships and the first Street Legal NZ street art festival in February 2014. KEA owns and manages the KEA Industrial Park and adjacent land in Paora Street and the KEA Centre in Onslow Street. Both facilities have rooms and units available for casual use and longer term leases.
