My partner and I stayed in Hone Heke lodge from mid December to the end of March, so around 3-4 months. We were welcomed by the lovely Daniel and Clare when we first arrived, they were looking after the Hostel while the owners were away on holiday. They showed us around and made us feel very very welcome. They helped us find jobs in hospitality - which we weren't expecting at all, but I think we just arrived at exactly the right time! They should definitely run a Hostel of there own at some point! When the owners David and Vicki came back, they were exceptionally welcoming and lovely too. They really made us feel as though their home was ours too! There is not much more to say about them apart from the fact they're hospitality is outstanding and we would definitely return if we ever find ourselves up in Northland again. We stayed in a double room with an en suite bathroom which was perfect for the two of us. Our room was cleaned/sheets changed once a week which was totally unexpected but was greatly appreciated. The other hostel workers do a fabulous job of cleaning the common rooms and are always cheery while working! We picked up a few odd shifts in the hostel every now and again which was great for experience and we also enjoyed doing it. The atmosphere around the place is perfect and everyone that came and went were pleasant and kind. We would highly recommend Hone Heke to any other backpacker we crossed on our paths. Kerikeri is also a wonderful place to explore. You have many walks/waterfalls around the area and there are many wonderful cafes to enjoy.

We stayed here while working in Kerikeri for over 3 months, definitely the best working hostel in New Zealand! Dave and Victoria are absolutely lovely and put so much work into keeping the hostel clean and homey. Thank you guys for everything!:)

Prepare yourself to pay 125 to park a van, prepare to don't have a discount if you have cold shower for more than 2 weeks. Business is more important than human for them. You can find something less expensive if you try. Hopefully good people live in this place.

Victoria & Dave were super friendly hosts who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome on our Te Araroa journey. Comfortable facilities and a great indoor/outdoor area. Thanks heaps!

First of all, no 1 night but 4 nights. Second I didn't just met the owner I actually met one of the most helpfull people who took care of me when I needed. I felt more like home there surrounded by family and friends. Everything is very clean, it's not a party hostel but you still have great fun with all the other people there. Ping pong, billiard etc for free it's just another benefit of staying in this place. The only thing I would prefer different way is to get a chance choose the temperature of the water. I always shower myself with cold/er water. But that's just me. Other than that absolute top quality in all aspects 99,9% of 100% Pleasure to be there and if I get chance, I will come back! Hone Heke Lodge do everything they can to make you feel welcome, happy and supported - however long you stay and however far from home you may be.

One of the best hostels I stayed in. The common areas are really open and beautiful and half outside half inside. I absolutely love the community that is formed through that
