the perfect lunch on a beautiful Wellington day. Grab some beautifully cooked fish'n'chips, golden brown and ready to scoff :-) If you're picky on your fish, then pick one from the cabinet, get it crumbed or battered and away you go. Staff are always welcoming, and great to talk to. And of course, being located just across from the beach, what could be more perfect than crossing that road, and enjoying your fish'n'chips on the beach.

Hoped for much more being a fish market. The family fish (crumbed and battered) and chips for lunch. Also got a chicken burger. The chicken burger tasted heated up and the fish had a funny taste to it. Had hoped for the extremely fresh flavour - no luck. I will be trying somewhere else next time in Petone.

Fish n chip dinner. I had high hopes but found our dinner to be average. A bit greasy. We ate them fairly quickly after being wrapped so no delay. The quantity was adequate but not what I would call generous. I'd probably go back but in no hurry. Sorry guys.

Thought it was kind of pricey before receiving order, but quality was good and portion sizes were decent! - very satisfying

John's Fish Market offers fresh fish and cooked fish and chips to go. The menu offers a good range including a couple of varieties of fish, battered or bread crumbed depending on your taste and other treats including burgers and kumera chips. Everything is cooked while you wait and the service is friendly and efficient as you would expect from a family run business. Definitely worth a visit especially if al fresco dining on Petone beach.

I eat at John's Fish every week and the fish is fresh and I adore the batter. In the school hols the kids and I had our fish and chips across the road at the beach. Lovely staff too. Thanks.

Been here a total of three times. I have tried the Fish Dinner Crumbed fillet, chips, coleslaw, sauce. Just Ok, nothing special, and have had better elsewhere. Have also tried Battered fish, mussels, Once again nothing special, Fish was bland and unlike a previous poster I didn't like the batter. Maybe it is whatever they deep fry in, but it had that gross fatty after taste. I would have expected better than average seeing how they sell fresh fish, but doesn't even cut the mustard when compared to a lot of 'ordinary' F&C shops around Wgtn.
