Track lined with wooden boardwalk. From the Pouakai track/hut, it's pretty much downhill (2hrs). Going up would take 2.5 hours- pretty much uphill all the way.

Good Carpark and toilets. The trail is all boardwalk and good for exercise. Would recommend to wait for clear weather otherwise you cannot see the mountain in the reflection of tarns which is what this trail is all about.

Amazing view at the mountain top just past the hut and in the middle on the way to the reflective lake. The lake is not reflective in windy days but the view is still stunning! The whole track is very well maintained. I will bring my parents here next time

Nice walk. Took us about 4.5 hours each way. Be prepared for a load of stairs but most of the way is on board walk. I didn't get to see the mountain reflection in the tarn as it was cloudy but we'll worth the walk. An enjoyable day. Toilets at the bottom carpark and at the top hut.

Mangorei endroad car park caters to over 50 cars & 4 coaches. A track up the road joining a gravel road & funnel to a bush walk. The walk is boarded with wood boards for an easy 2 hour trail up. Walking in nature into natural forest on both sides. A bit dark for some as forest is dense. Do read instructions on signboard on types of equipment & attire for an enjoyable walk

Steps steps and more steps. Other then the sheer amount of steps this area is amazeballs. A solid hour of walking through forest and then about 30 minutes of walking somewhat in the open to the Hut. Another 20 minutes to the tarn where if ya lucky it's not a blustery day and you can get that iconic shot of the Mountain.

Beautiful views from top after all that climbing through the steps.

Huge parking space with toilet. Even so on weekends and holidays it can get extremely busy here. Boardwalk trail with many stairs up to Pouakai hut (about 4.5km). From the hut onwards you can go do many walks, like visit the iconic tarns (just a little bit up past the hut), do the Pouakai crossing, go on to Holly hut, visit the Pouakai summit etc...
