Every time we visit Whakatane we always go up here, great views
Best views to be had anywhere in Whakatane. The trip can be a little hairy with half the road being unsealed but the panorama that unfolds before you is well worth it. There's a turning area with some space to park, a picnic bench, a trig station, a carved wooden statue and rocks with plaques with some info about the site. From the top you can see all across Whakatane and beyond Matata up the coast, across to Putuaki on one side and great views over the Whakatane rivermouth out to Motuhora on the other. Part of the hill is mown grass and leads down to the Kohi point walkway.
