Kiwi Charcoal uses the waste of the New Zealand lumber and timber industry as its raw material that is otherwise land-filled where methane production is inevitable. While most landfills in New Zealand are harvesting some of their bio-gas for power production, there is always some gas escaping and contributing to the increase of greenhouse gases which could accumulate as a contribution to anthropological global climate instability. Kiwi Charcoal has re-designed the anaerobic mechanical process for manufacture of charcoal from sawdust which is more suitable to the New Zealand conditions and raw material of Radiata Pine sawdust available in the country. Kiwi Charcoal uses not only sawdust, peelings and shavings but even broken logs and small branches commonly abandoned on the lumber camps are also a potential source of raw material available for use without impacting the existing productivity of the mills or loss of a single job to the communities relying on these industries.
