Absolutely lovely boutique accommodation. We stayed in the Writing Room, which was immaculate, nicely appointed and had great views of the rolling hills and ocean. The owners, John and Natalie, were very welcoming and even had some wine and cheese waiting for us when we arrived. There are fabulous views from the lounge area and also an awesome open fireplace that was lovely to relax by after dinner each evening. The breakfasts each morning were delicious with fresh fruit and homemade muesli as well as a different cooked option each morning. Highly recommend!

My wife and I had a fabulous escape for the weekend at Matakana Castle. John and Nat are lovely hosts and made us feel right at home in the tranquil setting of their beautiful home. We stayed in the Garden room which is at one end of the home and was spacious and very comfortable. There is a new heat pump installed which meant the room was the perfect temperature, and an ipod dock to you can relax to your own favourite music. There isn't a TV, but in such an idyllic setting we didn't miss it! The room has an outlook on to the garden and then from the outdoor area you have a stunning view across the paddocks and out to the harbour. There is a very comfortable guest lounge area to enjoy reading a magazine or an evening glass of wine, this again has the view out towards the water. Whilst next time we would very much like to stay in the Tower Suite, which unfortunately we missed out on as I was not quick enough to book (get in quick!!), I would be very happy in any of the three rooms. The Sunday morning breakfast was beautiful (best ever French toast according to my wife) and certainly rivaled the offerings of any cafe you could find. All in all a great relaxing stay only a short drive from the thriving little town of Matakana.

My husband and I have just spent a night in the Tower Room and only wish it had been longer! The room was beautifully prepared for our arrival with fresh flowers, complimentary chocolates and biscuits, was absolutely immaculate and had the most stunning views over the hills down to the sea. Our plan had been to explore the surrounding area, but the sun loungers on our own private roof terrace proved too tempting.... Natalie prepared a lovely cheeseboard with wine at 5pm served in the stylish lounge with a roaring fire adding to the welcoming atmosphere. The lounge is shared between the three guest rooms but as the only guests there, we sat reading magazines a listening to music, all provided for the guests' enjoyment. Breakfast the next morning was truly delicious - freshly prepared fruit, cereals, juices, tea or coffee and the most amazing French Toast with homemade blueberry preserve. We didn't eat again until dinner!! Natalie and John were fabulous hosts, and had thought of everything we'd hoped for for our little getaway. All the little touches made us feel very spoilt and we had such a wonderfully relaxing time - it's hard not to when the surroundings are so peaceful. For a romantic getaway or a break with friends, Matakana Castle is a real gem and we would wholeheartedly recommend it.
