We did the hike to the hut from Raspberry Creek Car Park (be aware that you have to cross some fords with your car to get to the car park) and it is a nice hike in the valley along the river. We had good weather and got some spectacular views.

There's one beautiful campsite near hut.

Beautifully well equipped hut, with a very gorgeous, kind and knowledgeable older man as the ranger. Costs 30 per adult, per night, which means you get access to using the gas cookers inside, running water, a bunk, and toilet facilities. There is a large lounge/kitchen with a couple bunks, (best views!) then two sleeping wings on each side. There's a log burner which keeps the hut extremely warm, firewood just up the ways to replace what you've used and solar lights to turn on at night. The sandflies are really gnarly though.. I'd recommend you take bug spray!!!

Can be pretty busy during the season. I only stopped in for a look on my way up to the head if the Matukituki. I'd happily stay here if I needed to mind you. Immaculate for a back country hut.

Hike here was amazing, steep in some places but breathtaking views. Took off early morning and arrived at the hut after sunrise. No staff seem to be on during the winter, toilets locked up and no running water available. Asking for money when half the facilities are closed is quite a stretch if you ask me - in summer I suppose it's more popular. We hiked here with the intention of just resting and going back, however it looks decent enough to sleep at if you needed to, quite grubby floors but that's the fault of those previously here.

A bit expensive but very nice location and kitchen with cooker. Great 2hrs hike with very pretty landscape.
