The girl who worked in the office was incredibly helpful and sorted me out even though I arrived a little late. Have to admit the place is pretty pricey for a Backpackers, though this seems to be the trend for the area. Facilities were ok, nice outdoors area.

This Hostel is by far the best in Mount Maunganui, my 1 month stay quickly turned into 6 for the sole reason that this place is unrivalled in good times. Not to mention a genuine backpacker homeliness you simply can't get with bigger hostels. The staff are spectacular people who won't kick you out on your arse with the first sign of 'backpacker transgression' (To which I have had many) and therefore have actual souls. Is this hostel perfect? Nope, and for the reasons, everyone has stated (Facilities, Noise, Space etc.) But it doesn't matter. This place will forever be where I spent approximately 0.6% of my ENTIRE life and met the most incredible people. Thank you, the people of Mount Backpackers.

Amazing hostel with chilled vibe. I came for 5 days and ended up staying almost 3 weeks. The staff is really friendly and welcoming. Talk to them for deals in town, jobs or just to have a nice conversation. Showers and toilets are clean, as well as the kitchen and outside area. Would go back there anytime!
Super nice and friendly staff. The location is the best, just a few steps away from the beach and the Mt Maunganui Mountain. Also walking distance to bars and shops. The accommodation offers the option to rent surfboards, bodyboards, bikes with helmets, etc. Highly recommend it

From the moment I arrived at this hostel I was welcomed by staff and everyone who was already living in this hostel. The staff on reception are so nice and I ended being very good friends with them. Everyone was so friendly and it was very easy to make friends as I was travelling by myself. I was invited to go out on the night I first arrived and by the end of the end of the night I had literally met the whole hostel, its a small hostel which is great as it means everyone is like a family, the vibes here are so chilled. I ended up staying in this hostel for 7 months. There is a good mix of work and party. I have made friends here that I will have for life. the facilities are in good condition also as its a small hostel the kitchen is a little small which can crowded when everyone is trying to cook all at once, there is only 1 washing machine and dryer in the whole hostel but there is a laundrette down the road which is pretty much the same price and has numerous machines there. there are 3 showers for all in the hostel but you never find yourself having to wait for them. great stay!
