Racesafe New Zealand provides on-track fire suppression, vehicle extrication and first aid services for all motor sport events at Meeanee Speedway. The Racesafe division is made up 10 volunteer fire fighters, with a common interest in motorsport, providing their voluntary time and professional skills to ensure race meetings are held safely and that any driver rescue or fire can be effectively dealt with! In addition to providing services to raceway competitors, Racesafe works closely with Speedway New Zealand to provide structured Speedway Emergency Response training for track safety personnel and officials through the following safety training modules: • Speedway Rollover Simulator – Through the use of the Speedway Rollover Simulator competitors will experience a rollover (20º, 90 º and 180 º) and how to secure the fuel, shut down the ignition and get out of an inverted vehicle when it’s on fire. • Speedway Extrication Simulator – Through the use of the Speedway Extrication Simulator firefighter’s recovery crews and ambulance officers will practice the techniques and equipment used in extricating injured/unconscious drivers from a stockcar and care of the injured/burned driver following extrication. • Speedway Live Fire Simulator – Through the use of the Speedway Live Fire Simulator competitors will gain an awareness of fire hazards, and how to respond to fire incidents in the speedway environment and extinguish a number of simulated engine and fuel cell fires using portable fire extinguishers. The training also includes dealing with fuel spills and a methanol fuel fire.
