The reward to effort ratio on this walk is pretty low. It’s 20-30 min constant uphill which tired us up quite a bit, and the view from the top wasn’t particularly rewarding. It might be worth in winter but we wouldn’t recommend it in summer. The forest was pretty but I think you can find more pleasant (and maybe more flat) trails in the surrounding area!

Stopped here for a break from driving, it’s moderately difficult and a constant uphill but really like what others have said, the forest is enchanting in its own way. You’ll see a moss covered forest floor most of the way up if you go in summer (end Nov). The view is so-so. I’ve seen better views but this is still worth going for just to get up ur heart rate also look out for some tiny worms dangling from the trees at the start, u might walk into them unknowingly.
Quite a steep climb, but you get to the top pretty fast. I got here when my friends were resting in the car, and it’s definitely worth it. Higher spot, better views.
A beautiful hike at Haast Pass up to the lookout. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes. The trail starts out in a lush, moss covered forest full of mushrooms and ferns. It winds up through the forest as the trail becomes rockier until you reach the small lookout point with a small bench and nice views of the surrounding mountains.
This is a challenging vertical hike of only about 30 minutes return. The views aren’t jaw dropping but it is a nice break from driving! Trail is in good condition and we saw the same people at every other scenic spot along this road so it was funny to see them coming down the trail :-). There were some cool mushrooms! See the photos (March 2018). The fauna was beautiful if you look it for it.
Short, somewhat steep walk with a nice payoff at the top. This is not quite like the other stops along the highway, the track climbs a bit and does not have steps or a boardwalk, so probably not for everybody. Well worth the effort.
