Extremely pleased we decided to have dinner there last night. The battered filleted sole just melted in my mouth and the New York cheese cake was second to none. Very helpful staff and friendly atmosphere .

Awesome place to stay! We spent 3 nights at Bellbird Cottage. It was so clean, warm, well equipped, dog friendly. And the restaurant and staff are fantastic too! So nice to have a great restaurant right there at our accommodation. They were so helpful in making us delicious vegan food and going out of their way to make sure we were happy and catered for. Beautiful waterfalls and scenery right on the doorstep too. We can't wait to go back
Really friendly staff, cheerful welcome and they even made me a rum and coke to take to our room. Unit we were in was a motel type size with a shared kitchen facility in that area of ?6 units I think, which was well equipped (although could’ve done with more tea towels as once someone had used the two supplied they were too wet for everyone else). Bed was comfortable although only a double. Good other facilities (laundry etc). Disappointed we were there the nights the Restaurant was closed as it’s got a great reputation. We had bed and breakfast package and they supplied the food in a basket in the room which was amazing and had heaps of yummy food including gigantic, tasty scones made by the chef. Would recommend staying here! Location perfect as its central to all the Catlins.
We really enjoyed our stay at chalet 3. Whistling Frog is the perfect place to stay to see McLean Falls and Cathedral Caves, both are very close by. We enjoyed a fabulous meal and breakfast snacks the next morning after visiting the caves at low tide. Top notch cuisine and a beautiful complex.
When we arrived, we got helped quickly. It was windy as and we had issues getting our tent up. Once the tent was finally up one of the sticks snapped ...loudest rippppp...tent buggered. Straight back to the counter, they had just one chalet left available. Price got adjusted a bit to soften the blow and we even got some treats for the children to enjoy while mum and dad sorted the change of plans. What a BLISS guys...truly a blessing, we extended the booking because we were so relaxed in the chalet!! Had dinner one night too, at the restaurant, phenomenal...definitely going back again...they sure know how to make a holiday work
One of the best experiences in NZ. Unbelievable food backed up with friendly service. Don't let the remote location fool you. The food here is on par with anything you would get in any other location. Each meal is well thought through. The whole meal is cooked to perfection and well matched and balanced. Complimented with tap beers and quality wines to meet all palates. Whilst the local attractions are worth the trip so is the restaurant experience here. Cannot wait to reutrn.
Stayed for 2 nights in March 2021. It was the perfect place to base ourselves as we explored the surrounding area. The bathrooms were spotless and plenty of hot water too. Unfortunately the restaurant wasn't open when we stayed so we can't comment on that. Staff very helpful and friendly. Loved the peace and quiet - apart from the stormy night we experienced ! Would recommend if you're in the area.
Loved it! If you're a group of friends and looking for walks, scenery, and delicious food, then the Whistling Frog won't disappoint. The cabin accommodation was clean & cosy and the staff super friendly. 1 night is not enough.
