I'd give it a 3 out of 5 because the house is old and vintage and tired looking not much heat for in the winter time. House needs to be fully renovated but it be good and to attract more people and tourists. The good thing about it is very good service and very good welcoming and very good location right near the beach and good walking distance to cafes and shops

Staff were great and price was cheap that's about it. If you looking for a hotel don't go here, our first bed was broken and was like sleeping on the side of a mountain no private toilets or showers place was very old and dated with creepy photos and decorations all over the place. No TV in room only a communal one.

The worst YHA hostel we came across. We stayed in #6 for one night and #26 for two additional nights. 1) The double rooms smelled funky - the bad funky. 2) The oven caught alight from leftovers that weren't cleaned. 3) Due to point no. 2, I doubt the smoke alarms work. 4) Anyone taller than 6'4" cannot use the kitchen without hitting their head or constantly bending over. 5) Parking is limited, because it's done on the front lawn. 6) All the showers are meant for short people, and I mean 4 feet 6 inches short! 7) The fridges are all set way too cold, which ruined all our fresh produce when it froze it. 8) There's an old white lady that seemed to be a non-working resident of the hostel. She hogs the TV every night watching American soaps.

I would give 3,5 stars... There was a really warm welcome. Even if the house is old, everything was clean. Just a bit negative is that there are just curtains infront of the shower. I was also not able to find a power point in the room. But all in all okay- woukd stay there again.

Last minute booking, most accommodation were booked out for Saturday 25/2/18 (Kapiti Paraparaumu), just been called upon to help with the Kapiti Women's Triathlon (KWT) for Sunday, coming from the Hutt I might as well grab a bed to be at park by 8am, after reading some reviews regarding this hostel, I'll judge later, taking my sleeping bag, towel, kai (food) even a tent. 7am to Triathlon (don't worry I'm not in the dormitory, had my own single room). 1/3/2018:- Wow! what a character of a building, it has a SOLD sign. It reminds me of my Papa & nans home stead especially the old desk mirrors/wardrobe & the old photos. But the mattress.. HARD as!! checked-in @ 1pm then straight out to help (KWT) back 7pm had a nosy in kitchen/lounge, aaah needs a SPRUCE up!! Why cook? brought hot chips & went to the beach to enjoy with friends who came up for KWT. Checked out 7am (for 8am marathon start). Showers & toilet clean, that's all that matters :) Kia ora (Thank you)

We were living here for almost two monthsamd it was a nice place to stay, especially for the price. Lovely staff, in general clean amenities (depending on other guests), and nice other longtermers. As it is an older building can the rooms be a bit fresh in the winter and noisy during the weekends when you get people who do not have that much respect for other quests. Biggest plus is of course the beach opposite of the hotel. And there is free Wi-Fi, unlike many other places in NZ
